Welcome to the Asian Voices Oral History Project

Asian Voices is a two year project aimed at collecting the memories of the first immigrant communities in Huddersfield. These memories will be collected in audio form and are available to listen to on this website.

In particular we shall be looking at the first Asian communities coming into Huddersfield during the 1950s and 1960s. We aim to find out how they settled in the area, what brought them, where they lived, and what specific problems they faced. We shall also look at how they set up their communities and how they found employment, as well as how they filled their leisure time.

We also intend to publish a number of pamphlets and hope that the recordings can be turned into a radio programme.

If you are a member of any of these communities and have memories that you would like to tell us about, or even photographs, then do get in touch with us.

Thank you

You can now keep up with the project in a weekly blog on http://asianvoices.wordpress.com Please feel free to add comments.
